Bosnia, SR: Approved cooperation with The Hague

BANJA LUKA (2/10/2001)- The Republic of Srpska parliament has today adopted an act on cooperation with the Hague Tribunal. The new law could lead to the arrest of the two men at the top of the tribunal's wanted list, Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic, reported B92. The former Bosnian Serb leader and his military chief are believed to be hiding in the republic. The law was adopted by 42 votes in favour, nine against, and 25 abstentions. The Serbian Democratic Party, the Party of Democratic Progress and the Socialist Party of the Republic of Serbia are all believed to have supported the bill. Those who opposed were thought to be from Bosnian parties, who argued that the act was unnecessary as the Dayton Accord covered the issue. The act obliges the republic's police and judiciary to arrest and extradite indictees to the Hague Tribunal.
