Yugoslavia: Del Ponte hopes to arrest Karadzic and Mladic within 2001

KARLSTAD (9/7/2001)- Hague prosecutor general, Carla del Ponte, told that she hopes to arrest the two most wanted men by the International tribunal - former Serb-Bosnian leaders Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic - within the end of this year, so they can join former Yugoslav president, Slobodan Milosevic, in Hague prison, reported ANSA. "we hope that the arrestments are done before this year ends," told International Hague tribunal for Former Yugoslavia prosecutor, Del Ponte in Karstad, Switzerland, where has gone to get a prize for human rights. In the previous days del Ponte visited the Balkan countries and tried to convince the Belgrade and Sarajevo leaders, to hand over the wanted. Hague incriminated six years ago Karadzic and Mladic - respectively political leader and military commander of the Serb-Bosnians- as they were related to several war episodes (1992-95), particularly in the military massacre of Srebrenica, in Sarajevo. The prosecutor affirmed that Hague wants to investigate in the atrocities accusations that were committed in Macedonia, but complain for NATO cooperation. Alliance ignored her requests for the particularities of the weapons handed over by NLA Albanian guerillas. "I will contact NATO Secretary general personally to know the reason," told the magistrate.
