Nominimet për çmime Oscar të Akademisë së 90- të janë publikuar tashmë dhe filmi “The Shape of Water” është duke i udhëhequr ato. Fantazia romancë e regjisorit Guillermo del Toro ka marrë gjithsej 13 nomimime, duke përfshirë këtu edhe atë për filmin më të mirë.

Ky film është nomimiar gjithashtu edhe për regjinë më të mirë si dhe për çmimin për aktrim për Sally Hawkins, Octavia Spencer dhe Richard Jenkis.

Por nuk ngelet pas as drama “Dunkrik” e Christopher Nolan, për luftën e dytë botërore. Filmi mori gjithsej tetë nominime, prej të cilave atë për filmin më të mirë, regjinë më të mirë dhe disa çmime të tjera kinematografike, por nuk u nominua në asnjë kategori për aktrim.

“Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri”, drama që u vlerësua me disa çmime në Golden Globes e SAG,  e cila flet për një grua e cila merret me policinë pas vrasjes së vajzës së saj, arriti të sigurojë shtatë nominime, mes të cilave atë për filmin më të mirë, regjinë dhe aktoren kryesore më të mirë në rolin kryesor.

Ndërkohë për herë të parë në çmimet Oscar është nominuar për fotografinë më të mirë, kameramania Rachel Morrison, duke u bërë kështu edhe pjesë e historisë, pasi është gruaja e parë e nominuar për këtë kategori.
