  • Jahjaga to meet Nikolic today in Brussels

    Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga will meet Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic today in what is their first meeting since Kosovo declared independence. The meeting is being facilitated by EU High Representative Catherine Ashton and primarily viewed as a symbolic gesture that will hopefully help the process of normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia.

  • There is no coalition between PDK and AAK

    AAK leader, Ramush Haradinaj stated on Friday that very little dose of optimism has remained for co-governance of the country by PDK and AAK. He stated that he has not received positive signals so far. “To be honest, we keep a dose of optimism, however we do not have signals that the response will be positive,” stated Haradinaj after the meeting of the leadership of this party. He added that the definite epilog will be known on Monday.

  • Opposition cannot bring down the Government

    Assembly of Kosovo is not dominated by parties in power but neither is it dominated by the opposition. As a consequence, the latter cannot bring down the Government. LDK, Vetëvendosje and AAK together have 51 deputies, ten less than the minimal number of votes required to successfully pass the motion of mistrust of the Government.

  • Fund for the north can have up to €90 million

    Kosovo’s Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi briefed President Atifete Jahjaga and diplomatic representatives in Pristina about the latest round of dialogue with Serbia, Koha Ditore reports on the front page. Thaçi did not say on Wednesday if all customs taxes collected at Jarinje and Bërnjak border crossings will be distributed to the fond for the economic development of the north. He only said that the taxes would be initially poured in the state budget.

  • We will defeat them

    In an interview for the paper, Kosovo’s Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi stated that it is a major disappointment and shame that the political leaders and citizens of Preshevo did not make a single effort to defend the UCPMB memorial stone. “I have instructed them how to act. With these actions, Serbia is demonstrating its will for exchange of territories. Ivica Dacic has even mentioned this in Brussels. But we have our strategies with which we are going to defeat them,” Said Thaçi for Express.

    The monument of UCPMB is no longer in front of the Municipal Assembly of Preshevo. Serbian gendarmerie has removed it on Sunday morning. Albanian political leaders of Preshevo Valley have called for a pan-national protest on Monday.

  • Thaçi: Serbia agreed to remove security parallel structures

    Koha Ditore reports that the fourth round of the dialogue between Kosovo Prime Minister, Hashim Thaçi, and Prime Minister of Serbia, Ivica Dacic, started on 17 January in the evening and extended through to Friday at 01:00am. This was the longest round until now even though, according to EU diplomats, this was the case because the meeting tackled extremely sensitive issues, such as the issue of the north of Kosovo.

  • Today’s meeting to legalize Serb structures

    The paper reports that Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi for the first time has admitted on Wednesday that structures of Serbia which until now he called illegal, will be legalized. He said that they will be transformed. Thaçi insisted only on the dismissal of Serb security structures as he talked in front of the Government cabinet about the positions which he will present on Thursday in the meeting with Prime Minister of Serbia, Ivica Dacic.

  • Serbia offers seat in the UN for the north

    Two days before the next meeting between Prime Ministers Hashim Thaçi and Ivica Dacic, their governments sent out approximation messages. The Serbian Prime Minister said in a press conference that Kosovo’s UN membership could be a topic in the dialogue if Prime Minister Thaçi gives something in return. This statement was welcomed by the Kosovo Government, which one day earlier admitted in a press communiqué that the north will be part of the dialogue. The Government of Kosovo also believes that the Serbs will not demand anything more if they see the Ahtisaari’s package in practice.

  • AAK gives PDK a deadline
